Missions and Meditations on Psalm 2

I’m presently at Ipsento exegeting (digging into) Psalm 2 (comparing the OT context with the NT quotation and context in Acts 4:23-31) in preparation for Sunday’s sermon. It’s so beautifully rich I want to shout (but the costumers probably wouldn’t appreciate that).

Jesus the Messiah (Christ) is the enthroned King of kings in whom pure joy and righteous judgment are found. Joy remains for those who find satisfaction and fearfully delight in Him (2:11). Judgment for those who self-sufficiently spurn God and reject Him (2:3, 2:12).

The privilege of the Missionary Christian is to take this message of Joy in God through the hope and deliverance offered in Jesus to all peoples everywhere! The nations “rage and plot” (2:1) reminding us that opposition awaits. However, there will be those who “Kiss the son” and take “refuge” in him (2:12) reminding us of the beauty of the Gospel.

Because Christ is my reward and my treasure, there is no cost too high to take this message to all peoples so that the nations would be glad and sing for joy (Ps 67:4). Paul said to live is Christ and to die is gain (Phil 1:21). Are you willing to “gain”? Are you willing to “gain” so that God’s fame would be spread throughout the earth (Is 66:19)?
